Demand for job students in Brussels doubles for the summer
The demand for job students for the summer period is particularly high. In Brussels, student employment agency Deltaworx sees 90 percent more applications for the catering and events sector compared to the corona crisis.
Applications have doubled in the Brussels catering and events sector. In other cities, according to Deltaworx, it is about doubling.
“The corona crisis, but certainly also the current labor shortage, has redrawn the work landscape for job students,” says Jeroen Poels, CEO of Deltaworx. Many restaurants and cafes in Brussels are faced with a staff shortage.
Due to the return of the festivals and other events, these are busy times for the catering and events sector.
But it is precisely those traditional student costumes that are less popular with today’s students, it sounds like. This year, half as many job students at Deltaworx also prefer a job as a waiter or event host.
Pickier
It is not only the catering industry that is looking for staff. Across the sectors, there is a quarter more demand for job students, both in Brussels and in the other regions where Deltaworx is active.
“That is good news for the students. They can choose from a wide range of workplaces and jobs that are in line with their studies. This gives more opportunities to gain relevant experience,” says Poels. “Due to the much larger offer of student jobs, job students have also become more picky. They prefer a job that is close to home and more comfortable.”
The cause of deltaworx in the corona that for two years forced students to work in other sectors, who receive enormous wages and look for longer jobs.
“Vacancies in retail and logistics work with a clear schedule. That gives students certainty about when and how much they can work and how much they can earn. Something that the hospitality industry and events can offer–less with their ad hoc schedules.”
