When will Russia abandon the Bologna educational system, and what does this mean for students?

Sugar Mizzy May 25, 2022

The abolition of the Bologna system was advocated by the relevant State Duma Committee on Science and the expansion of the collection, a number of senators, Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev and even the UK. And only the head of the Accounts Chamber, Alexei Kudrin, is in no hurry to refuse the international diagnostic examination

A number of departments over the last day of the prosecutor’s office to abolish the system of bachelor’s and master’s programs in Russia. Students, judging by the statements on social networks, are confused. What is known about the future of the educational process and international exchange?

The abolition of the Bologna system was supported by the specialized the committee State Duma on science and revision of the decision, a number of senators, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev and even Investigative the committee. The speaker of the Duma said that, as far as we know, everyone knows the probability of Russia’s withdrawal from the Bologna system. Head of the Accounts Chamber Alexei Kudrin to pay do not rush to refuse an international diagnostic examination. The issue will be discussed in the Federation Council on June 6.

But in the university environment there is a feeling that the issue has been resolved. Students and teachers began discussing the possible abolition of the Bologna system as early as March.

Russia joined the Bologna process, which provides for a three-level education system – bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate studies – in 2003. It was a long awaited event. Universities in about 50 countries of the world work according to a single reinforcement, from non-European countries, including United Arab Emirates. China, not being formally part of the Bologna system, is studying in some universities on the application of “4 + 2”. For nineteen years, Russian universities have been “running in” the relevant curricula, and in many areas suitable master’s programs have appeared only in recent years.

Bachelor’s programs help students understand what they would like to specialize in, and master’s programs help them delve into a professional area. For example, a bachelor’s degree could enroll in law, and a master’s degree in real estate law. Some students chose the location of a new direction in the magistracy, receiving two different educations. Plus such a system to facilitate quick exchange.

The RAS accidentally accepted the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Science of preference from the Bologna system. Maria Mchedlova, Chief Researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences:

The rectors of the capital’s universities either declined to comment or advocated the abolition of the Bologna system. How are the reflections of recognized Russian diplomas abroad cancelled? Opinion of the rector of the Moscow City Pedagogical University Igor Remorenko:

Some students took a break between undergraduate and graduate studies to work and decide who they would like to study next. It is possible that against the backdrop of news about a possible reform, competitions for master’s programs will grow: there will come and become bachelor’s graduates in 2022, and those who will receive a few years ago. Plus the transfer of training programs.

On the other hand, the three-step training is very painful. Four years in undergraduate, two in master’s, three or four in graduate school. Far fewer people come to defend a presidential candidate than in Soviet and post-Soviet times, says Mikhail Eskindarov:

As for the exam, in Rosobrnadzor think: the rejection of the Bologna system is not a reason to return to the old examination scheme. The department is confident that there is no worthy alternative to the unified state exam yet.
