The cases of monkey smallpox detected in Portugal rise to 49 – Observer

10 more were confirmed infected with the monkeypox virus, bringing the number of cases of monkeypox to 49, reveals a statement from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS). There are suspected cases that are still being analyzed by health authorities.
Most cases were detected in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with records also in the North and Alentejo regions — but with no confirmed positive case in the Center, Alentejo, Azores and Madeira regions. All those infected are men between the ages of 26 and 61, with the majority under 40, adds the DGS.
The new cases were confirmed by the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge (INSA) and remain under clinical follow-up. None of them have a serious medical condition or are in hospital – all are in isolation at home. According to the DGS, epidemiological investigations of suspected cases that are being detected are ongoing. The is identified “transmission chains of potential contacts, new cases, specific of possible occasional objects”.
“Patients who need to have ulcers, rash from examinations, palpable ganglia, accompanied by headaches, aches and fatigue, pains from clinical examinations, should seek advice. When going to a health unit, take care as health advice, advise the DGS.
People with symptoms of monkeypox virus infection should refrain from direct contact with others and share any objects, including illness, bedding, and personal effects, while they have symptoms of the disease.
