After Cholet’s away victory over ASVEL in the first match of the French League quarter-finals, Strasbourg also created a surprise by beating AS Monaco 100-87, also away. France’s two EuroLeague representatives could be knocked out early in their domestic qualifiers as the series is best-of-three.
Monaco have had to deal with the absence of superstar Mike James. The All-EuroLeague player was out with a right hand finger injury and will be re-evaluated before Game 2.
John Roberson scored a team-high 20 points for Strasbourg while Yannis Morin added 17 points. Amine Noua and DeAndre Landsdowe completed the winning quartet for the visiting team with 16 and 14 points respectively. Their team was particularly effective from downtown to finish with 12-21 from 3 points, a major contrast to Monaco’s 4-16.
Alpha Diallo shone with 22 points in his return to action after missing out on the EuroLeague qualifiers, but his comeback was not combined with the result he and his teammates wanted. Paris Lee added 17 points.
