Safer and easier travel for visually impaired people
The City is implementing concrete actions to support people with disabilities in their daily lives. Thus, 21 traffic lights located at sensitive intersections have been equipped with beacons linked to universal remote controls.
The installation of these beacons allows visually impaired or blind people, equipped with a universal remote control, to cross at the right time thanks to an audible alert. The remote control activates all sound terminals at crossroads or equipped buildings, in France or around the world.
An initiation workshop on the use of the remote control
To facilitate the autonomy of people with disabilities, the City, through the Department of Social Action, has set up introductory workshops in the use of remote control. The first training took place on Tuesday 24 May in Meythet. 5 people were able to benefit from the help and explanations of a locomotion instructor from the PEP74 association. The participants learned to use the universal remote control in situation, in a crossroads, but also in front of equipped buildings such as the delegated town hall of Meythet. Its beacon gives, among other things, the opening days and hours. It should be noted that all the delegated town halls are equipped with it. At the end of this workshop, each participant received a universal remote control free of charge.
The next remote control initiation workshop will take place on June 24 (place and schedule to be determined). Register at [email protected].
Involve all mobility stakeholders
In order for accessibility to develop throughout Annecy, the City has approached the Sibra and a test bus has been fitted with the beacon. The participants in the first training were able to experiment with this tool which gives the bus number and its direction. Some bus stops are also equipped with the beacon.
The City thanks the Valentin Haüy association for their mobilization throughout this Steps.
