May of Monuments 2022 in Naples: street art protagonist of the second week
After the sold out of last weekend’s events, the program of the May of Monuments 2022 continues in the name of street art and street theater. Among the numerous appointments this week, the presentation of the public work of art was particularly awaited “Operation Gold”made by the French artist Zevs to Ponticelli which will be presented on Friday 27 May; and the performance of tableaux vivants dedicate a Caravaggioscheduled in the courtyard of the basilica of Santa Chiara.
Combining urban paneling and enhancement of the public heritage, Zevs will transform the facade of the “Marie Curie” institute, located in via Argine, into a very bright golden color. The effect will be obtained by exploiting the chromatism of the thermal blankets used in rescue operations. Part of the work will be an integrated poster containing the image of one of Scampia’s gilded sails, an iconic representation of its demolition and rebirth.
“Thermal blankets evoke pain and suffering“ Zeus pointed out “With my work I wanted to change their symbolic value: I will use their gilding to create an effect of great brilliance, giving brightness to the strength to renew the past and give birth to the future“.
Some of Caravaggio’s most famous works will be at the center of “By grace received / Ex voto”, theatrical performance that on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 May will animate the courtyard of the basilica of Santa Chiara with three performances a day. Using the tableaux vivants technique, the representation will combine the powerful suggestions of Caravaggio’s painting with the iconography of the votive shrines present on many walls of the city, evoking the encounter between the sacred and the profane.
