Emergencies – Hanover – Police are looking for 182 missing children in Lower Saxony – Panorama
Hanover (dpa / lni) – A nightmare for parents: The police are currently looking for 182 missing children from Lower Saxony. In addition, 388 young people in the age group 14 to 17 are missing, as the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office announced on the “Day of Missing Children” on May 25th. The reasons for the disappearance of children, as far as they are known, are primarily confiscations by a parent – or the children disappear from homes. Accidents also play a role. However, most children reappear after a short time.
If a child goes missing, it is important to act quickly, the State Criminal Police Office said. Unlike missing adults, the investigators always assumed that missing children were dangerous. This means that the police immediately start investigating the whereabouts or dangers. If there are indications of a crime, a corresponding investigation is initiated.
The experts advised informing the police as early as possible in the event of a missing person and filing a missing person report. In this way, traces could only be evaluated and clues found. Parents of missing children should also call the child’s friends and other parents. In addition, someone should be at home in case the child is found in the meantime or comes home. You should also search in familiar places. The State Criminal Police Office also advised: “Stay calm and focused.”
A total of 1231 people are currently missing in Lower Saxony – as of May 16th. The authorities pointed out that the numbers in the State Criminal Police Office’s “missing persons file” were only a snapshot that changed several times a day. New missing persons cases would be added, other searches could be deleted. In currently 69 of all missing persons cases there is a suspicion that the missing person could have been the victim of a crime.
