A tram in Prague knocked down a man and he died on the spot
The accident happened in Nádražní Street at the Lihovar stop around half past two in the afternoon.
“We are currently intervening in the case of a pedestrian hit by a tram. Despite all the efforts of the intervening forces on the spot, the person succumbed to his injuries, “police spokeswoman Violeta Siřišťová told the News shortly after the accident.
In the afternoon, the rescue service adjusted the original information that it was a woman. According to rescuers, he was knocked down by a man whose identification was difficult. “Unfortunately, after the arrival of the first colleagues at the scene, it was clear that we would probably be injuring the 30-year-old man, his injuries were incompatible with life,” said spokeswoman Jana Poštová.
The bus then blocked traffic
Instead of a tragic accident, there were transit shuttles, the traffic was controlled by the police. The column of waiting cars was overtaken on one side by the driver of the public transport bus, who then met the oncoming buses in the lane. He completely blocked the traffic for about 10 minutes before he managed to back up and dodge.
The transport company stated on its website that the trams had been shortened in the direction from the center to the Smíchovské nádraží stop. An alternative bus service line X12 was introduced between the Smíchovské nádraží – Hlubočepy stops. Traffic resumed around five o’clock in the afternoon.
