RONNEBY, Sweden (23 May 2022) – The USA’s U-16 women’s youth national team defeated host Sweden, 4-1, to sweep all three matches convincingly at their UEFA Development Tournament.

The United States also defeated Norway, 4-0, on May 18 and defeated France, 3-1, on May 20, to beat its opponents 11-2 during the friendly competition. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, these were the first international matches for U-16 in the USA since February 2020 when the USA played in a UEFA Development Tournament in England.

The USA went under for the first time in the tournament when Swedish Bianca Hultback Nattland hit in 27.th minute to bet her team to a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The second half belonged to the United States, who scored four unanswered goals in 29 minutes to end the match.

In a match where the USA shot Sweden 15-4, striker Kennedy Roesch finally equalized in the 58th.th minute when she dribbled over the penalty box to the left and finished with a left shot from 12 meters. That was her second goal of the tournament.

The USA took the lead just five minutes later when hill Carla Small, who comes from Waipahu, Hawaii, intercepted a pass from Sweden in her own expulsion booth and finished for the final match winner. It was her first international goal.

The United States accumulated insurance figures during the 83rdrd and 87th minutes, the first came when forward Addison Hess dribbled into the left side of the penalty box and released a pass to forward Ava McDonald, who finished inside the far post for his second goal of the competition.

The end result came after midfielder Grace Restovich dribbled into the middle of the attacking third and passed to forward Emeri Adames, who ran down the left wing into the penalty area. Adames took two touches and finished for the final result and her first international goal.

The American team was led by the U-17 national team’s head coach for U-17 women, Natalia Astrain, who recently guided the United States to the title at the Concacaf Women’s U-17 Championship in the Dominican Republic and a place at the 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup in India. All players on this U-16 WYNT list are eligible for that age.

Players born on January 1, 2006 or later were eligible for this competition and all 20 players who were called to travel to Sweden were born in 2006.
