A pandemic treaty agreements will not come into effect this week in any case and the Netherlands will not relinquish sovereignty either. So the statement is.
A WHO working group is working on a pandemic treaty (more on that later). A concept won’t be released until August this year descriptions† If the treaty is put into effect, that will not happen until 2024 at the earliest.
The WHO announcement is meeting this week in Geneva for an annual meeting of the health organization. There is talk about the treaty, but will not be discussed.
However, the working group that is also working on the treaty is going to propose the WHO rulebook. That was in 2005 and contains rules WHO member states must keep.
Just like the treaty, no decision will be taken on this. The days will mainly be used for discussion.
Plans that the WHO working group has drawn up to date, for example, state that more attention should be paid to diseases in animals. It also states that the distribution of mouth caps and other protective equipment must be improved. Lockdowns and enforced measures are not part of the plans, initially have to leave.
During the corona crisis, many countries in their own way on the outbreak of COVID-19. Important information was not always exchanged and pesticides, for example, were not properly shared between countries.
That has to change in the future due to a worldwide pandemic treaty, 25 world leaders declared last year. Prime Minister Mark Rutte also signed the initiative of the WHO countries. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkelen also signed the initiative, among others.
