Monaco GP: Charles Leclerc with new engine parts
Will Charles Leclerc be able to ward off fate in Monaco? Victim of an engine failure in Spain, more precisely his turbo and his MGU-H, the Ferrari driver will have to deal with new parts on the engine of his F1-75 for the GP of Monaco. After his abandonment in Barcelona, the Monegasque can approach his national Grand Prix without worrying about being at this level and hope to sign a new pole in the Principality, as he did last year.
However, this engine failure came at the wrong time since Max Verstappen took the opportunity to seek his 4th success of the season and regain the lead in the championship. A disappointment for Ferrari which was very fast in Spain, evidenced by the pole position of the main interested party almost 4 tenths ahead of his rival. Engine problems that Ferrari did not notice during the course and which explain this sudden loss of power.
F1 — Alert at Ferrari after the abandonment of Charles Leclerc in Spain?
“It was a very sudden and serious engine problem”explains Mattia Binotto, team principal of the Scuderia. “We discovered it when Charles picked up the radio and it showed up on the data. So very suddenly! We must remain optimistic. It was a positive weekend overall. We made changes, the car was fast, we got a fantastic pole position and the race pace was perfect. We were struggling with tire degradation on some courses, today we proved that we were very fast”.
Rebound expected in Monaco
As we know, Charles Leclerc oscillates between mistakes and bad luck in Monaco. Broken brakes in 2018, exit in Q1 then accident in 2019, pole position then broken gearbox on the grid. A whole bunch of little misadventures that mean that in 3 participations, Leclerc has never finished his national Grand Prix in F1. Add to that another broken brake disc at the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique and Charles Leclerc must be wondering what fate is befalling him at home.
Or, this engine failure probably comes at the right time in the end. Indeed, with new engine parts, the Monegasque can already withdraw from any additional pressure to offer from his engine. One less factor that will allow him to focus solely and solely on his driving, which has sometimes failed him in the Principality. Indeed, Leclerc is a regular on the rails in which he has already crashed his F1 cars.
If Charles manages to put everything together, nothing seems to be able to resist him in Monaco. Indeed, last year had a less efficient car but had set the fastest time in qualifying. This season with one (if not the) best cars in the paddock, the Monegasque can claim victory on home soil. A possibility that he must obviously consider in view of his pace in Spain where he was far ahead of his competitors.
