More than fifty galleries, museums and project spaces join forces during the long Ascension weekend to give the public a picture of the dynamic art scene in Antwerp. After two editions ravaged by corona, Antwerp Art Weekend 2022 offers a wide range of special exhibitions.

Antwerp Art Weekend has been taking place since 2014. More and more specialists and art lovers come to Antwerp from the rest of Belgium but also from neighboring countries. For Antwerp residents, it is a handy opportunity to taste water and experience current art in their own city in a few days. After all, the most important resources will then remain open for an extra long gallery.

On the program are numerous roaring names with solo exhibitions: Kati Heck at Tim Van Laere Gallery, Fred Bervoets at De Zwarte Panter and Museum De Reede, Ann Veronica Janssens at Micheline Szwajcer, Andrew Webb at Annie Gentils, Pélagie Gbaguidi at Zeno X , Wout Vercammen at Rossaert, Liliane Vertessen at Tick Tack or Nasan Tur at Keteleer.

Anyone who will discover up-and-coming talent should definitely visit Galerie Sofie Van de Velde for Amber Andrews, and the young Ponti gallery, where Ken Verhoeven is a guest at Casstl for Vedran Kopljar.

The successful Ballroom project is once again taking place in BorgerHub in Borgerhout, where the galleries Base Alpha and DMW invite colleagues from Brussels and the Netherlands. This edition has a ‘grotesque’ theme and will feature artists such as Laure Prouvost, Nadia Naveau and Jan Van Imschoot.

Antwerp Art Weekend also organizes book presentations. For example, a publication about the legendary Kontich rock hall Lintfabriek is presented at the Antwerp Academy with an exhibition. For evening video screenings, Tick Tack offers an overview of Ukrainian artists from 2000 to today. The public is invited to make a contribution for the country in an unwanted war.

An outsider is an exhibition of works of art from the collection of Axel Daeseleire and Cis Van Kets in bicycle shop Koereur Lokaal on Amerikalei 173. Paul Joostens and Floris Jespers hang between Eddy Merckx’s racing bicycles.

For the eighth time, De Studio in Maarschalk Gérardstraat is the central festival hub. can go there for the artist bar, but also for screenings, performances, expositions and Saturday visitors will be the Night of the Visual Arts.
