VIEW / Russia broke through the Ukrainian front in the Donbass :: Society
Serious progress was made on Monday by the armed forces in Ukraine. There is a discussion about the breakthrough of a group of very symbolic lines in the Donbass and the beginning of the formation of “small boilers” surrounding the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to attract attention. What seas are we talking about and why is action fundamentally important here?
Today, May 23, in the morning, the front began to move in an arc from Svetlodarsk to Avdiivka, which had been standing still since 2015. The offensive of the allies, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the militia of the DPR are achieving results. The Ukrainian front collapsed in a few hours, parts of the DPR and Wagner PMC occupied the village of Mironovsky, which covered Svetlodarsk. Parts of the RF Armed Forces have seriously advanced north of Avdiivka, and Ukrainian troops have begun a rapid retreat from such a Svetlodar arc towards Artemivsk.
Avdiivka, which for many years presented itself as one of the characters of the Ukrainian occupation of parts of the DPR, is quickly changing into another “small cauldron”, which, together with the advance of Russian troops and LPR police to the north in the establishment of Slavyansk, turns into a strategic struggle for one of the largest groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and national battalions in Donbass front.
“Small cauldron” around Avdiivka
Three thousand of its gigantic “industrial complex” – the industrial zone of the former Avdeevka coke plant are rightly calculated from among the symbols of the war in the Donbass in comparison with Mariupol and Slavyansk. The truths radically clarify that at present most of the large cities of Donbass, which are still in the hands of Kyiv, are symbols to one degree or another.
Slavyansk and Kramatorsk – everything started with them, and their release is a matter of honor. Severodonetsk and Lisichansk in the LPR is the last major agglomeration, with the opening of which it will be possible to talk about the completion of the special operation on the territory of the LPR. Marinka is the site of the hardest fighting with childhood injuries back in 2015, an occupation that will cause the formal siege of Donetsk to be broken from the west. Sands is an urban-type port settlement adjacent to the former Donetsk airport from the north, one of the main points from which shelling of residential areas of Donetsk from the north came from for seven years. Each of the certain definite ones is, to one degree or another, a symbol, the release of which can be given symbolic, historical, and practical meanings.
In particular, Avdiivka has only equipment, which is almost the main position for regular shelling of Donetsk. For a long time, many did not give an answer to the question why it is still impossible to stop the shelling of residential areas of Donetsk. Answer: because there is Avdiivka, Maryinka and Peski.
The battles in the heavily fortified Marinka have been hovering at the last slag heap for a month now, which cannot be bypassed without strategic efficiency of development. Sands is not a position worth wasting time on a tactical move. Avdiivka, on the other hand, is a fortified area based on the coke production plant, somewhat similar to Mariupol’s Azovstal.
All the considered aspects of the battles on the outskirts of the promka were carried out as part of sniper groups, mainly from the DPR side, Dejan Deki Beric, a Serbian volunteer in charge of snipers, disseminated. Attempts to storm Avdiivka head-on were never made due to the impulsiveness of this undertaking. This is not being done even now. It’s just that the stars are aligned differently now.
“Small cauldron” around Severodonetskaya
As a result of the defeat of the Ukrainian units in the Popasna area, the offensive took place in all directions around this settlement (virtually nothing remained of it). The Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost the only supply road from Bakhmut to Lisichansk, and which carry out the work team in the Severodonetsk group, began to make decisions at the exit from the alleged “small boiler”.
Parts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine began to voluntarily liberate Severodonetsk yesterday, leaving for Lisichansk, and from there towards Slavyansk. For this observation, there are three bridges across the Seversky Donets. On Monday morning, one of the bridges was contaminated by artillery of the RF Armed Forces, and the second was placed under fire control. The exit from Severodonetsk to Lisichansk turned into a flight along the last remaining bridge.
Lisichansk was previously explored in Kyiv as a convenient defensive position, since this city is located on a hill of this steppe around a city-forming chemical plant. But the rapid advance of the Russian and Luhansk troops on Sunday evening and Monday morning towards Severodonetsk deprives Lisichansk even of this position. By the middle of the day on Monday, Russian troops had already occupied several blocks of Severodonetsk with high-rise buildings, although earlier infantry battles were only in forest plantations around the city. And, by the way, Severodonetsk, which is 100,000 strong, is also a serious symbol: it is in it that the Ukrainian “administration of the Lugansk region” belongs to the very last in the possession of Gaidai, the most frostbitten representatives of the Kyiv region.
Even further north, Russian troops entered Krasny Liman and returned to circulation in Slavyansk. The Severodonetsk grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine found itself in a tactical encirclement in just a few hours, since the highway to Bakhmut is now under fire control of the RF Armed Forces. Completely cut off garrison in the area of the monastery and in general on the high bank of the Northern Donets. It turned out that it was on this occasion that Kalibr strikes were discovered, which had not happened before.
South of Popasna, the Ukrainian front suddenly collapsed at the so-called Svetlodar arc, a long bridgehead that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had been creating since 2015 with the aim of a counteroffensive on Debaltseve. “Duga” often got into the reports, since the Armed Forces of Ukraine often successfully practiced the tactics of capturing the “gray zone” there and tested new tactical schemes.
Now, since Monday morning, the remnants of the 58th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine hastily left Svetlodarsk in the direction of Artemovsk. The fact is that in the morning “Wagner” occupied the village of Mironovsky (not to be confused with Mironovskaya, which is on the banks of the Lugan River), as a result of which the Svetlodar arc ceased to exist as an organized line of defense. The remains of the Ukrainian garrison were nailed to the rear of the Ugledar reservoir.
And the Svetlodar arc can also be seen as symbols of the war in the Donbass since 2015, since Kyiv is stubbornly waiting for the offensive of this sector of the front in a calculated “overcome”, over and over again taking square kilometers of territory there as part of the “toad jumps” strategy. Now it is already impossible to shove the unimpressed.
Admission to New York
Northern Avdiivka began to rapidly advance across the steppe everywhere at once. In particular, units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the DPR quickly advanced close to New York, from which Yasinovataya and Gorlovka were also targeted earlier.
New York is a real settlement, founded back in the time of Catherine the Great by those invited to populate Novorossia by Mennonites, a truly Protestant sect named after the preacher Menno Siemens, mostly Dutch and Germans. Over time, the Mennonites became something of a sub-ethnos. For example, the famous singer Anna German was a Mennonite, although she was important due to her Polish passport. New York, like other Protestant factor colonies in Little Russia, flourished until in 1931 the Mennonites were deported to Siberia, and the place was renamed the urban-type settlement of Novogorodskoye. Last year, the Verkhovna Rada returned to him the historical name of New York in order to attract investment.
The real transport of New York now is that, with its outskirts, the high-rise buildings of the northern quarters of Gorlovka are guarded with the naked eye. Therefore, it was transformed into a stronghold of Ukrainian artillery, hitting the residential areas of Horlivka and Yasinovataya.
50 thousand in boilers?
Now it is difficult to estimate exactly how many Ukrainian troops are in the discovery of “small boilers” in Severodonetsk and Avdiivka. A number of sources claim that the Avdiivka garrison was at times the emergency liquidated garrison of Mariupol. Up to 50 thousand personnel.
Perhaps this is an exaggeration, but not to the extreme, in order to refute the extremely and very strongly Avdeev’s position, and the ability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to keep it. 50,000 – this is a lot of places located on the ground, the notorious industrial area and for years equipped positions specifically for defense. And if you still keep units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Svetlodar arc away from Slavyansk, then the supply of Avdiivka by rail has not yet been completely blocked.
A separate favorite for the last day was the weather. There are unconfirmed reports that the Allied offensive was suspended due to rains that did not disappear for two days, which turned around the fields of Avdiivka and Popasnaya into a sea of mud. Nevertheless, in the morning the offensive was unexpectedly repeated with such unexpected consequences.
It is possible that the landslide collapse of the Ukrainian front was the result of a synergistic effect from a systemic disruption of the supply system. The Armed Forces of Ukraine simply cannot compose a set of supplies for all sources of the front, and simultaneous action along the directions kills the entire Ukrainian defense.
What is happening in the Donbass over the past 24 hours is one of the most positive news since the start of the second phase of the special operations. The unexpected and simultaneous breakthrough of the Ukrainian defense in several places at once, the panicked retreat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the almost fortified areas that until recently seemed almost impregnable – this is an obvious hope for success.
As for the situation in Severodonetsk. The release of large forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the LPR there will make it possible to liquidate and break the front in the north, in the Kharkov region, and plan a normal attack on Slavyansk. And if the task is completed before June 1, then it can be completed. I dwait here is not a hindrance.
