A team from the Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe Üstra took part in the Tram European Championships in Leipzig at the weekend and secured the title of European Champion. Jessica Schlueter and Andreas Brucks defeated 24 competitors. Teams from Lyon and Berlin finished second and third. Disciplines such as target braking, stopping exactly at the platform or tram billiards are on the program for the competition. Around 47,000 spectators watched the six competitions over the weekend. “We are proud of our team and the achievements of our drivers. This is not just a success for Üstra, but for the whole of Hanover,” said Üstra spokesman Udo Iwannek, according to the “Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung”. As a reward, the team was given a day of special leave on Monday.
