The world upside down: Brazilian confiscates cocaine, drugs from … Antwerp (Antwerp)
Two consignments of cocaine were intercepted in the Brazilian port of Paranaguá on Friday. In total, 161 kilograms of cocaine were involved. Not so in itself, were it not for the fact that the drugs were from… Antwerp.
The Receita Federal, the Brazilian customs, normally intercepts drugs that are shipped to Europe, but last Friday the tables were turned. Up to two, customs found cocaine in a container that was on its way from Antwerp to Brazil.
When scanning an empty refrigerated container, customs noticed something strange. An inspection revealed that 146 kilograms of cocaine were hidden between the bottom of the container and the cooling engine. The packs of coke were marked with the word ‘Covid’, a way for the cartels to know who is responsible for the drug shipments.
In the second, smaller drug bust, customs were able to confiscate 15 kilograms of cocaine. Those drugs are hidden in the engine of a refrigerated container that would be used to transport frozen turkeys to Mexico. It took about an hour to get the drugs out of the engine.
but because not both containers were on their way from Antwerp to Brazil, but because not both containers are known as a country where customs probably know that there is more going on. In both cases, collectors probably failed to smuggle the drugs out of the port of Antwerp, after which the empty container was sent back to the country of origin.
