It seems to fly over the sky of Toulouse! Both daily transport and object of curiosity, Téléo, the new cable car of the metropolis, was put into service on May 13, 2022. Over 3km, it connects the Oncopole to the Paul-Sabatier University, passing by Rangueil hospital.
Téléo, that’s its name, promises Toulouse residents to save time. The journey is now made in 10 minutes thanks to it, against 30 by road, making it possible to clear many zones hitherto bypassed. Areas that constituted major constraints during its design and construction, as told by Batiactu Charles-Alexandre Cayatte, project manager for Systra, the consortium’s engineering company in charge of the design, construction and maintenance of the project, led by Poma.
Multiple geographical constraints
“We pass over a regional nature reserve, a Natura 2000 area, a landslide area, a historic monument protection perimeter, he lists. The relief is also very special.” Indeed, the cable car crosses the hill of Pech David and must pass a height difference of 100m before overlooking the Garonne. On the other side of the river, the Oncopole station is located in a flood zone. It is therefore built on stilts, and is able to remain in operation as long as it is accessible, in the event of a major flood.
