Portugal loses to Denmark but moves on to the quarters of the U-17 European Championship
The Portuguese under-17 football team lost this Monday 3-1 to Denmark, but qualified for the quarter-finals of the European Championship, in which they will face Spain on Thursday.
Ivan Lima (30 minutes) gave Portugal the lead, but Nantey (62′), Hansborg-Sorensen (70′) and a Luís Gomes own goal (90′) ensured the Danes won and also first place in Group D, in equality with the corner team, second chosen, being with Sweden that Scotland lost with the Swedes (1-0) and was in the last position, without points.
The young team from the corners, commanded by José Lima, had thrashed in Scotland (5-1) and Sweden (4-2) in the first two rounds of the tournament being held in Israel.
Portugal, twice under-17 European stage, in 2003 and 2016, will face Spain in the quarter-finals, which finished in first place in Group C, ahead of Serbia, opponents of the Danes in the next one. “It’s going to be a very difficult game, we’ve already played, we’re going to clear the heads, improve the best of the team and prepare the best possible for that game”assured the national selector.
Germany-France and Netherlands are the other games scheduled for the next phase.
