Portugal is the EU country with the most new cases of covid-19 (and the second in the world)
Portugal still has the highest average of deaths in the European Union, and second in international terms
Portugal is the European Union country with the most new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection per million inhabitants in the last seven days and second in the world in this indicator, according to the statistical website Our World in Data.
The daily average of new cases is 2,290 per million inhabitants, followed by Ireland with 636, Germany with 533, Italy (448) and France (435).
Considering countries and territories with more than one million inhabitants, Taiwan has the highest average of new daily cases (3,300), followed by Portugal, Australia (1,920), New Zealand (1,520) and Panama (712).
With regard to new deaths attributed to covid-19, Portugal also has the highest in the European Union (3.17), followed by Finland with 3.14, Ireland with 2.12, Greece with 1.97 and Italy 1 .68.
In global terms, looking at countries with more than one million inhabitants, Iceland has a daily average of new deaths from covid-19 (178), followed by Portugal, Finland, New Zealand (2.45) and Ireland.
The average number of new cases per million inhabitants in the European Union is at 337 and new daily at 1.15.
The world average of new cases is at 69 and new deaths attributed to covid-19 is at 0.21.
