Pedro Neto dismissed on the first day of Portugal under-21 concentration
Forward left Wolves-Liverpool injured. Lusos play the last three qualifying matches for Euro’2023
Bad luck knocked (again) at Pedro Neto’s door. The forward, on Sunday, suffered an injury at Wolves-Liverpool, which forced him to be replaced, and the worst scenario for the player was confirmed: the dismissal of the under-21 selection of Portugal.
The young forward’s goodbye was announced this Monday by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). “Pedro Neto will not be able to give his contributor to the Equipe das Quinas, due to injury, and was dismissed from the work”, reads in a federative note.
Pedro Neto, who missed much of this season due to injury, will not be able to make a contribution to the next three official matches of the U-21 National Team, which began a concentration this morning in Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras.
Coach Rui Jorge has, for the time being, 14 – out of 24 – players called up, who will perform, this afternoon, the first preparation session. Fábio Carvalho, Eduardo Quaresma, Tiago Dantas, Francisco Conceição, João Mário, Fábio Vieira, Nuno Tavares, Tiago Djaló, Fábio Silva and Costa were “duly authorized to integrate the later internship”, informs the FPF, in the same statement.
Under-21 Portugal will face Belarus (June 4th), Liechtenstein (June 7th) and Greece (11th, in Barcelos) in the last three games of the qualifying phase for the 2023 European Championship, in which they will try to consume the leadership, currently in possession with 19 points, of group 4, as well as direct qualification.
