Closed in 2015, the tunnel on the E78 needs to be modernized and made safe
Civitella Paganico The bottleneck in the Casale di Pari tunnel is days numbered. Even if they are 540, plus those for signing the contract. Provided the times are respected.
Last week, in fact, Anas (FS Group) published in the Official Gazette the outcome of the tender for the modernization work of the old tunnel located in the Civitella Paganico section of the E78, which has now been closed since 2015.
A highly anticipated intervention, which is part of the plan of the extraordinary commissioner Massimo Simonini for the completion of the E78 Grosseto-Fano itinerary.
The Messina firm “Consorzio stable Infra. tech Scarl ”, which will have 540 days to conclude.
Considering the interval required for the signing of the contract, the delivery of the works, the acquisition of materials and the installation of the construction site, it is assumed that the company will not start work before the end of this year. Moment from which the terms for the delivery of the finished product will run.
The horizon to see the cars cross the barrel again in the north-east direction of the double tunnel, therefore, is that of 2024.
«Seven years have already passed since the closing of the gallery – underlines the mayor of Civitella Paganico, Alessandra Biondi – Today, however, even if with a serious delay, the fact that the contract has been awarded is a reason to celebrate. At this point, I only hope that the work will proceed smoothly according to the schedule ».
The intervention, for a total investment of 35.1 million euros, of which 28.3 million for works, regards in particular the redevelopment of the old tunnel, currently closed with two-way diversion on the new tunnel, built in the scope of the four-lane doubling works.
The works will consist in the realization of the internal lining and the technological and safety systems according to the most recent standards: LED lighting, luminous signs, variable message panels, Sos columns, fire detection and extinguishing system.
The old Due Mari tunnel built in the 1950s had been closed in 2015, after a previous partial transit intervention to refurbish the vault and reopening in provisional mode pending the conclusion of the double tunnel tube, which can be used in both directions.
At this point the route of the Pari constraint remains to be defined, north of the tunnel towards Grosseto, whose construction had been suspended following the identification of rocks containing antimony for which a storage site must be identified.
«For our part – says Biondi – we have always urged Anas to solve this problem. We also worked to find a solution for the storage of excavated materials in order to contain costs, but then the company presented us with another design solution in October 2021 that we considered impractical. Just last Tuesday I was contacted by the Anas technicians who anticipated that they had identified a third hypothesis of the route for the junction, which we will be called to view and discuss in the weeks of weeks. It would seem that there is also the possibility of finding the resources for its realization. We will see”.
