Naples, at the start of the recovery of the Pappacoda chapel
The historic center of Naples is ready for the recovery of another disused historical asset: it is the Pappacoda Chapelone of the rare examples of late Neapolitan Gothic, a real jewel in the heart of the historic center, heritage ofUnesco, inaccessible to everyone for over 10 years. The popular initiative was born on social networks and is the result of an agreement between the parish priest don Salvatore Giuliano of the basilica of San Giovanni Maggiore and various associations with “Aidacon consumers” in the role of leader, which will finance the progressive reopening.
The works have started in recent days with the painting of the gates and will continue with the reconstruction of the exterior of the small temple, 600 years old: once restored and made safe, the chapel will be used for cultural, musical and social initiatives, with the aim final to include especially the youngest in worthy projects to take them away from the street.
«For the twentieth anniversary of Aidacon – specified its president Carlo Claps – we have decided to return a special jewel to our city. We have called friends, supporters and testimonies to collect a dream and fortunately there is no lack of accessions: the Pappacoda Chapel is an inestimable asset of the historical heritage of Naples “.
