Ministers discuss current issues with the WEF President in Switzerland
JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Indonesian Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita and Coordinating Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto met World Economic Forum (WEF) President Børge Brende on the sidelines of the WEF event in Davos, Switzerland.
Ministers discussed several issues with Brende related to food security, economic recovery and Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara.
“The WEF President has expressed his opinion on the importance of food security and protection of food raw materials,” Kartasasmita said in a statement received here on Monday.
Efforts to achieve Indonesia’s net-zero carbon target were also discussed at the meeting.
“The WEF President said that Indonesia’s renewable energy development potential needs to be strengthened, although a large budget is required to switch from fossil fuels to new renewable energies,” Kartasasmita said.
The meeting also discussed Indonesia’s plan to develop Nusantara.
According to Kartasasmita, Brende saw the new capital as an attempt to balance the economy.
The WEF considers Indonesia very successful in reducing its Gini ratio, which is an indicator of social inequality, the industry minister added.
“We also invite the forum to collaborate in an inclusive global economic recovery effort,” Kartasasmita said.
Efforts to recover the world economy tie in with the WEF’s 2022 Global Risk Report, which says about 84.2 percent of respondents are concerned about the world’s future trajectory.

As part of its G20 presidency, Indonesia is striving to ensure the group’s important role in addressing these concerns by serving as a catalyst for an inclusive global economic recovery.
According to Kartasasmita, this can be achieved by working together to develop a sustainable manufacturing industry, specifically through developing people skills and applying Industry 4.0 technology.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Indonesian government invited the WEF to continue discussions at a follow-up meeting in Jakarta.
