lectures contemporaines de « La Dame à la licorne » aux Glacières de la banlieue
Formerly used to store trucks of blocks of ice transported to Bordeaux and its agglomeration, this industrial hangar transformed today into a multidisciplinary place inspires many visual artists. As a result, a slew of them apply each year to show new works here or works that do not fit the classic dimensions of the art gallery.
Headed by the association the Group of Five (composed of five architects: Matthieu Béchaux, Bruno Gerbier, Jean de Giacinto, Léo Rival and Daniel Sarrazin), the program is built on the basis of this enthusiasm Coupled by the invitation of an exhibition curator responsible for designing a coherent proposal. The combination of these different parameters frames different plastic expressions and, this spring, an exhibition designed by Corinne Szabo.
Enclosed and heavenly garden
Passionate about reflections on the “survival” of images and “representations” that underpin our collective memory, this curator and art historian initiated a dialogue between the works of four contemporary painters on themes conveyed by a medieval masterpiece: “The Lady with the Unicorn”. Articulated around six tapestries, this bewitching wall hanging kept at the Cluny museum integrates its composition on the same red background which hosts different scenes depicted on a green island.
In a very popular vein at the time (millefleur style), this marvelous decor is studded with suspended motifs: abundant vegetation and many small pets or exotic animals (white rabbits, foxes, dogs, lambs, birds, monkeys, etc. . .). Driven by a heavenly nature that refutes the hierarchy between the different kingdoms (animal, plant and human), these six enclosed spaces each devote a sense (touch, taste, smell, hearing, sight). As for the last tapestry, inseparable from the others, it destines an enigmatic mention: “To my only desire”.
Nourished by abundant vegetation coexisting harmoniously with peaceful fauna, the original paintings and installations by Priscille Claude, Tatiana Defraine, Duda Moraes and Simon Rayssac extend the evocative powers of the Lady with the Unicorn in a celebration of the senses, sensuality, eroticism, desire, nature and the female figure.
