He would have a statue of two legends in Debrecen
Mayor László Papp will also discuss a proposal for the erection of a statue at the General Assembly in Debrecen on 26 May.
Zoltán Latinovits, one of the greatest figures of Hungarian theater art, is a posthumous actor, a deserving actor who won the Kossuth and Jászai Mari Prize, and an assistant actor who was contracted to the Csokonai Theater in 1956. The existence of a theater in Debrecen for two years was followed by a theater detour in Miskolc for a few years, then he returned to the Csokonai Theater again between 1961 and 1962. Already during his play in Debrecen, he excelled in his modern, intellectual interpretation of roles and the meticulous representation of emotions.
Árpád Kóti, Actor of the Nation, Kossuth and Jászai Prize winner, worthy and excellent artist, an inherited member of the Csokonai Theater, an honorary citizen of the city, was a member of the Csokonai Theater from his death in 1963. During his long career in Debrecen, he has had more than three hundred performances and worked with more than sixty directors. The Csokonai Theater also commemorates the two actors with the gesture of naming a hall in the Csokonai Forum.
Their portrait was modeled in clay by sculptor Richard Juha with the idea that the final bronze version of the sculptures would be placed in the surroundings of the new, grandiose theater. The location of the public works would be in the green area in front of the wall section between the Csokonai Forum and the entrance to the Forum shopping center, close to the entrance to the theater. Both sculptures measure 65x 58×35 centimeters and the pedestal is 140 centimeters high.
The total cost of making and placing the sculptures is HUF 10.1 million. For the decision, an expert opinion on the artistic value of the work of art must be obtained, for which the local government has requested the OMSZI Institutional Maintenance Non-Profit Limited Liability Company – this will be completed by the day of the general meeting.
