Gualtieri’s “new” Rome: she shaves and he gets drunk in the historic Trastevere Fountain (video)

Sugar Mizzy May 23, 2022

Personal hygiene? There is water in the historic fountain of Trastevere, why not dive in? A degrading scene, from a city abandoned to itself, just like Virginia Raggi’s Rome, the one that rages on the web, only now there is a new mayor, Roberto Gualtieri. In the historic Gianicolo fountain, above Trastevere, a man in boxers washes and drinks wine, while a woman in a bathing suit shaves her armpits. As if it were on the bidet at home. It happens in Rome, in the historic center, a few steps from the panorama of the Janiculum, in a street named after the musician who wrote the national anthem, G0ffredo Mameli. The video, published on the Welcome To Favelas channels and acquired by the police, shows the filthy scene of these two people bivouacking in the fountain “del Prigione”, created between 1587 and 1590 by Domenico Fontana, a name that derives from the sculpture of a prisoner with his hands tied it is located in the central position.

In that fountain, today, you can shave your armpits or scaccolarsi, with the dog waiting for them, as shown in the video below …

The Trastevere fountain and the assault on monuments without control

The villa was destroyed at the end of the nineteenth century for the construction of the new residential districts of Rome capital and the constituent parts of the fountain were purchased by the Municipality of Rome, dismantled in 1888 and stored. In 1894-95 it was decided to recompose the fountain as a backdrop for via Genova, one of the streets of the new urbanization near via Nazionale. In 1923 the fountain was dismantled again and reassembled in its present location along via Goffredo Mameli on the slopes of the Janiculum on the project of the Civil Engineers. The fountain was subjected to a restoration intervention by the municipal administration in 2005-2006 during which an area of respect was created.

But why to Roma situation to occur situations of generand, with the fountains, or the monuments besieged by tourists or homeless people (the last episode, that of the car that went down the steps of Trinità dei Monti)? In the new local police regulation of Roma Capitale, launched in 2020, the amounts of the penalties for those who make “improper use of fountains and drinking fountains” are described. The offender in these cases would have to pay a fine that it goes from 160 to 450 euros, which changes according to the gravity of the contested infringement. But who does it?
