Ben Betker changes from HC Tiroler Wasserkraft Innsbruck to runner-up Hydro Fehérvár AV19. The 27-year-old defender made 49 appearances for the “Haie” (3G / 10A). The Canadian serves as a replacement for Josh Atkinson, who moves to the DEL to the Bietigheim Steelers.
Ben Betker was drafted in the sixth round by the Edmonton Oilers in 2013 but went on to play exclusively in the WHL, American Hockey League and ECHL. In December 2018, the defender finally made the leap to Europe, signing up with HC Detva in Slovakia. Betker are then under contract with HKM Zvolen for two seasons and were crowned Slovakian champions in 2021 before the left-handed shooter moved to Innsbruck. The 27-year-old played 49 times with the “Haien”. The Canadian scored 13 points.
Betker is now looking forward to his challenge: “I’m really looking forward to the new season, because playing in Fehérvár was always a special experience for me as an opponent – even though I probably still am now that I’m on the ‘right’ side will enjoy more. I have already experienced what it feels like to win a championship and I want to continue this winning streak with Hydro Fehérvár AV19.”
