Bundesliga: Champions Salzburg are already thinking of a new season
After the Klagenfurt game, Freund dismissed the personnel debates: “That’s not our big topic today, let’s celebrate properly and enjoy the whole thing, and then we’ll see what happens in the next few weeks.” But that’s a lot work is waiting. Adeyemi, Jerome Onguene and Zlatko Junuzovic have already said goodbye. Further consequences could follow: Maximilian Wöber is associated with VfL Wolfsburg, Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Mo Camara have played their way internationally with their strong performances.
Denmark’s Kristensen kept a low profile in the Sky interview on Saturday: “You don’t know what happens in football. I love this club and this city, maybe something will happen, nothing is fixed.” A commitment to staying sounds different, numerous clubs are said to be courting the 24-year-old. Not an unfamiliar situation for sports director Freund, Salzburg has already given up a number of top players in the past. And yet the “Bulls” have not only established themselves as series champions, but also slowly in Europe.
Draw for Salzburg at the end of the season
Salzburg’s last game of the season against Austria Klagenfurt ended 1-1.
“impressive development”
“The team’s development was really impressive again this year, especially in autumn with the Champions League and in spring, how we pulled it off. Kudos and hats off to the whole team and the coaches – a terrific performance with a lot of quality,” Freund summed up at the championship celebration. “In the end it always seems obvious, but there is a lot of work behind it.”
There will be continuity on the coaching bench for the time being. Jaissle remains head coach, the 34-year-old has just extended his contract until 2025, but this does not guarantee that the German will stay in Salzburg for another three years. Which players he has available remains to be seen. Freund promised on Saturday that he could “guarantee all Salzburg fans that we will have a really strong team next year.” On the plus side so far is the Brazilian Fernando, the 23-year-old comes from Shakhtar Donetsk and has been given a contract until 2027.
Adeyemi meanwhile said goodbye and said: “I’m leaving Salzburg happy.” Something that Kristensen and Co. will soon say. Junuzovic leaves the series champion after “four great years”. It is still unclear what will happen to the 34-year-old midfielder. “I have to think carefully about the next step because I still like being a footballer, and now it’s a matter of deciding whether to be a footballer or a non-footballer.”
