A history of Florence: the former military hospital San Gallo is reborn. The plan of the municipality
After the agreement of Palazzo Vecchio with the State Property and the Ministry of Defense
It was a convent, rich in history and mysteries: then it became a military hospital. Finished in disarmament. Now the former military hospital San Gallo, in Florence, finds a new public and private vocation. Approval by the City Council of a resolution thanks to which the complex is reborn with a mix of residential, office, hospitality and commercial.
More than 50 residences are expected to be built inside the former military hospital in St. Gallen. In this case, as also explained by the city planning councilor Cecilia Del Re, for ten years it will not be possible to create landlords, bed and breakfasts, holiday homes and apartments. Among the features also the contribution of the private operator of 580 thousand which will be destined for social housing interventions in the city.
The San Gallo area is part of the agreement of November 2014 with the State Property and the Ministry of Defense for the rationalization and enhancement of some military properties in the municipal area. The sum owed by the private individual as monetization, reads a note from Palazzo Vecchio, is 630 thousand euros and will finish the restoration of the Sferisterio (300 thousand euros), the redevelopment of the main entrance of the central market of San Lorenzo (100 thousand euros) , the recovery and extraordinary maintenance of the Lavagnini primary school (230 thousand euros).
In addition, a real estate unit of 150 square meters will be sold free of charge to the Municipality for the construction of a toy library. With the intervention, the complex will then be open to citizens, even with guided tours. A piece of Florence is reborn. And many other pieces, forgotten and abandoned, await a project to see the light again.
