The oil embargo must be introduced without Hungary
“Just this month, we saw that the entire motorway infrastructure was once again turned to Orbán’s best friend, Mr. Mészáros, who is a plumber and now the richest man in Hungary. This is an amount of 14.4 billion euros, this application is valid for 35 years, so it is really an openly corrupt system, everyone in Hungary knows this, everyone in the EU knows that. ” Said Katarina Barley, Vice-President of the European Parliament in an interview with Deutschlandfunkthat the Hungarian Voice is illustrated.
The European Union has so far adopted five packages of sanctions against Russia. Its 27 members had previously acted swiftly and in unison, effectively enforcing what seemed like an unthinkable war before it began, such as sanctions against Russian banks. However, this momentum was lost in May.
European Commission proposes total import ban on Russian oil – on 4 May, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. Péter Szijjártó then demanded 15-18 billion euros (about 6 thousand billion forints), which Hungary said needed to mitigate the damage.
According to Social Democrat politician Katarina Barley, the other 26 members should now set up an oil embargo without Hungary. Barley now says it would “not be optimal at all”. However, Orban could only be persuaded with a lot of money to agree to an oil embargo, and that money would then be distributed in my brother-in-law’s system, according to the EP President.
In addition to Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria are particularly affected, Barley said. However, these three states are trying to find a solution together with the EU, “Only Hungary will use this issue for political games and also to direct more money to Hungary again.” Viktor Orbán wants to use this money to make up for the money missing from the reconstruction fund, which has been blocked due to the shortcomings of the rule of law. Therefore, “now the money must be directed to Hungary in a different way, and above all to the channels of Orbán’s family and clan,” Barley said.
Although Katarina Barley’s place of work, the European Parliament, does not have much decision-making power over sanctions against Russia, her speech could also predict the future position of the larger members of the Union. Barley is a politician in the German Social Democratic Party (SPD), which also employs German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as the largest governing party.
