During a visit by Prince Rainier III to New York at the end of 1955, the mother of the American star Grace Kelly who became Princess Grace of Monaco slipped up by referring to “Prince of Morocco” instead of “Prince of Monaco”.
Point returned to one of the beautiful anecdotes of the Cannes Film Festival where Grace Kelly had been invited in the spring of 1955 after winning the Oscar for best actress for “A girl from the province”. Without forgetting to recall the slip made by the mother of the American actress during the visit of Prince Rainier III of Monaco. The latter had gone to New York to make his marriage proposal to Grace, with an emerald-cut diamond of 10.47 carats.

Happy with this visit, Margaret Katherine Majer tangles her brushes by announcing that her daughter “is going to marry the prince of Morocco! “. She came to confuse Morocco and Monaco. Grace and Rainier were married in Monaco Cathedral on April 19, 1956, the day after the civil marriage was celebrated in the palace’s throne room. The couple had three children: Caroline Louise Marguerite, Albert II, current sovereign of the principality and Stéphanie Marie-Élisabeth. On September 14, 1982, Grace of Monaco died following a car accident that had occurred the day before.
