The first student LOMATHON took place in LOM Prague
Following the example of successful foreign hackathons and hackathons, organized in the Czech Republic as well, the state enterprise of the Ministry of Defense LOM Prague organized an exceptional engineering application in the field of aviation, intended for university students.
The pilot year of LOMATHON took place on Thursday, May 19, in the premises of the state enterprise in Malešice. The students’ task was to deal with the support of adapting the AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom helicopters for a specific flight mission. These helicopters were chosen because they will soon become part of the helicopter platform of the Air Force of the Czech Army and the state enterprise LOM Prague will participate in their maintenance and repairs.
Four teams of talented students competed for the main prize, a helicopter flight at the LOM Praha sp Aviation Training Center in Pardubice. The team of ÚLeT Michal Mrázek, Matěj Vavřina and Jan Procházka won. The boys are students of the Czech Technical University, majoring in aerospace technology. The ÚleT team coped well with the adaptation of both helicopters, but also presented their work well. They all worked as a team and helped each other in solving the challenge.
Michal Procházka, Director of the Propulsion Unit (ZPJ), handed over the award to the winning team on behalf of LOM Prague Director Jiří Protivý. “All the boys locked up on the challenge, it was obvious that they enjoyed the competition. I am convinced that events of this type will help ensure that young, promising people are also interested in the quality work I do at LOM. ”
The LOMATHON call tested students’ skills as well as their technical and economic thinking. With the participation of Pavel Pánek, the chief engineer of the power plant plant, the students also inspected the professional workplace and practically tried working with a unique 3D scanner, where they scanned the Viper and Venom helicopters.
