Euroleague: No License A for Monaco without a new arena
During the Euroleague Final Four, which is currently taking place in Belgrade, CEO Jordi Bertomeu gave some information to a group of journalists covering the event.
-The average budget of Euroleague teams is 24 million euros.
-The objective of the EuroLeague is to develop a salary cap (salary cap) at 60-65% of the team budget.
-The format of the Eurocup, launched the season delivered, yet highly questionable will not change. To participate in the competition, the minimum budget required will be 2.5 million euros.
-Teams that enter the BasketBall Champions League “will never play in the Euroleague”.
-Bertomeu believes that the Euroleague could play its Final Four in the Santiago Bernabeu football stadium when it is finished being renovated.
-Moreover, The Team report that AS Monaco will be able to continue playing in the Gaston-Médecin room, at least for next season: “It had been put to a vote by the clubs. All had voted in favour. This summer, a renovation should bring the hall to 5,000 seats. The ASM respects its commitments, there is no reason not to continue like this. They will therefore evaluate in their room. On the other hand, to claim an A license as a permanent member… This application should go hand in hand with a project for a new Arena of greater capacity. Without that, it seems to me that it wouldn’t make sense. »
