This is not the first accident of its kind on the Bapaume-Cambrai axis. Last October, two cars collided, just days after the start of work to renovate the road. The victims had to be extricated.
At the beginning of May, four people lost their lives in another frontal impact on the A1 motorway near Izel-lès-Equerchins. A few days later, it was the turn of a motorhome to collide with a car in the wrong direction on the A16 motorway between Berck and Le Touquet.
Since the resumption of activities following the various health measures, road accidents have increased compared to 2021. In April 2022, a 29% increase was observed compared to the same month of the previous year.
