Two athletes from Debrecen won national awards
Budapest – The Association of Hungarian Sport Shooters awarded the decades of work of Imre Aszalós and Miklós Varjú.
The Association of Hungarian Sport Shooters held its annual meeting of delegates at the Hungarian Sports House on May 16. One of the items on the agenda of the general meeting was the remuneration of the honorees. Retired police lieutenant colonel Imre Aszalós from Hajdú-Bihar county and Miklós Varjú, president of the Debrecen City Shooting Association, awarded the former a silver badge and the latter a letter of commendation for sport shooting for decades of outstanding, exemplary work.

Imre Aszalós was a former member of the board of the Hungarian Law Enforcement Sports Association, then vice-president for twenty years, from 1994 until 2014. The retired lieutenant colonel has been leading the Debrecen Police Sports Association since 1994, and since 2010 he has been the president of the Hajdú-Bihar County Sports Association. Aszalós has always been characterized by a sporty lifestyle, and in recent years has been one of the promoters of amateur shooting in the county.
Miklós Varjú has been the president of the Debrecen City Shooting Association, the largest shooting club in Hajdú-Bihar, for twenty-two years, and the president of the Hajdú-Bihar County Organization of the Professional Chamber of Personal, Property Protection and Private Investigators. He is still an active sports shooter, winning a gold medal at the national championship for those over sixty years last year in a central-fire pistol competition.
