San Marino at the 132nd session of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers
The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Luca Beccari spoke in the morning at the 132nd session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, held this year in Turin under the Italian presidency, in the presence of the counterpart Minister Luigi di Maio. Directed by the mission to Brussels to meet high representatives of the Commission and the European Parliament, the Secretary of State, accompanied by a diplomatic delegation, returned to the annual meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the member countries of the Council of Europe, expressing considerations and evaluations relating to to the role that the Strasbourg organization is called to play especially today, in a European context that is questioning its borders and in the light of the most recent exclusion of the Russian Federation from the Organization itself. Beccari expressed the belief that “As member states we will have to be creative and start thinking about how the future geopolitical scenarios and balances will emerge as a result of the upheavals caused by the war and how the Council of Europe could play a relevant role in such futures. scenario. Faced with the tragic, but concrete, possibility that from the old and tangible Berlin wall we pass to a new virtual wall along the entire border that separates the Russian Federation from Europe to the west, our Organization could turn its gaze beyond its borders, looking for new collaborations and partnerships. San Marino is ready to do its part and give its material contribution and ideas in this sense. ” As part of the ministerial session, which returned to attendance after two years of pandemic, Secretary of State Beccari talked with several fellow Foreign Ministers, also holding some bilateral meetings.
