Refurbishment of the Landestheater well within budget
Culture
The largest renovation of the last 20 years has been underway in the Salzburg State Theater for two weeks. The entire facility, lighting, hall and stage technology will be renewed, and the historical paintings and stucco will be restored.
The entire project costs almost 14 million euros. Despite the current crisis, it is on budget and on schedule. The topic was presented to the public for the first time in March 2021. The preparations were long overdue before first the Omicron winter and then the Ukraine war disrupted economic life and the construction industry.
Orders, planning already done in 2021
Horrendous price increases and a pressing shortage of raw materials do not affect the construction site at the Landestheater, explains commercial director Bernhard Utz: “We are very lucky that we started planning so early. The orders were already out in December 2021, as were the most important duties and 80 percent of the money volume. This allows us to implement the material and cost plan well.”
New season started on November 12th
During the 13.6 million euro refurbishment, the technical equipment in particular will be renewed, as well as the seating. From the summer, a team of specialists will then restore the ceiling painting, among other things. The work should be completed in October. The reopening of the Landestheater is planned for November 12th.
