Maintenance Aalsmeerbaan drives Amsterdam Buitenveldert and Southeast to despair
At Schiphol, the Aalsmeerbaan is closed due to major maintenance, which means that the Buitenveldertbaan is used more than 2.5 times more often.
“It is raining complaints,” says Maurice van Uden of Vliegherrie.nl, “but that is also logical if 400 planes a day come over our neighborhoods.”
“We are cooped up in Buitenveldert and in the meantime we can’t do anything at all”, Van Uden reads one of the many complaints. It is also ball in Duivendrecht, Jopie Euwe-Beaufort can no longer sit in the garden with visitors: “
Because yes, the maintenance is not yet until mid-July. “I think: do it in the winter. Or do it during corona”, Euwe-Beaufort sighs.
According to Van Uden, there are also other solutions that can be found, but it shows that Schiphol has become much too big in his opinion: “They have to shrink because of moving. And preferably all in view of our climate objectives.”
Schiphol response:
“We carry out maintenance to keep the runways and taxiways at Schiphol safe and in good condition. Because the Aalsmeer runway is closed anyway, this will not affect night flights.
We find it annoying that our neighbors are a nuisance. Runway maintenance is necessary for flight safety. All the various activities are carried out as efficiently as possible in the three months of major maintenance. By carrying out maintenance in this way, this job has to be used once.”
