Letter to the editor – (almost) without Liechtensteiners
A total of 30 players were used in the cup final. Just a handful of them were from Liechtenstein. For me, a catastrophe with terrible consequences for Liechtenstein football. Especially for the national team. She’s currently down to 192 in the FIFA rankings. The way to Europe’s laughing stock is now counted.
(Do you still remember the draw against Portugal, the victories against Luxembourg and Iceland, the games against Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Scotland? Those were still times. Compliments to those of the time).
Vaduz has been pouring millions into the pockets of foreign players for years. The locals are left to starve. Experienced national players are booted out. You are pursuing a strategy against your own country, with no regard for local football, no solidarity with your home community, no empathy for the fans across the country, the alumni, the honorary members, the patrons. How can you fool an entire society out of purely personal egoism? In my view, such an approach is reprehensible.
(Did you watch the Vaduz vs. Lausanne game on TV? The stadium was empty. A few spectators watched the game. It was so sad. To cry).
And what does the association do? He watches and lets the inglorious anti-Liechtenstein activities run free. Unfortunately, there is also a crisis in the promotion of young talent. The LFV has to put up with the accusation of severely neglecting its responsibility for football in Liechtenstein. Designing excellent vision brochures and building a monstrous center of excellence is all well and good. However, the music plays on the football square.
For me it is high time that the football association developed a pro-Liechtenstein vision with the clubs and implemented it vigorously. Carrying on like this cannot be an option. The promotion of young talent also urgently needs fresh blood. Especially in the clubs. With Daniel Hasler, longtime national player, coach, youth promoter, the best man for our country would be available as sports director at the moment. Hiring him should actually be a duty for the LFV. Hence LFV: wake up, get up and act.
