Index – Domestic – Müller Cecília: High quality drinking water in Hungary
Cecília Müller said that both the providers and the National Center for Public Health (NNK) regularly test drinking water, with nine hundred thousand samples on tens of thousands of samples a year. He indicated that Hungary is in a fortunate position, as healthy, good quality water flows from the tap.
Drinking water is also tested for microplastics and hormones, and the results show that these substances can only be detected in traces in surface waters, not in drinking water yet, as these wells are filtered by shore-filtered wells.
Water is needed for the metabolic processes of the human body, one should not rely only on thirst. The average daily water consumption of an adult is 2-2.5 liters, which of course can be more during periods of heat, exercise or strenuous physical work.
Adequate water intake is important for the elderly and children
– emphasized Cecília Müller, adding that it is important to choose tap water instead of bottled water, and sugary soft drinks have a negative effect on the body’s operations, writes MTI.
According to the director of the National Institute of Pharmacy and Food Health (OGYÉI), the initiator of the Happy Week program for public educational institutions, which promotes the consumption of drinking water, the institute constantly monitors the health status of the population and makes recommendations for various fields. There have also been several surveys of household consumption patterns in recent years.
Twelve years ago, the Happy Week program for schools and the Aqua challenge campaign for adults drew attention to the consumption of good quality drinking water.
Edit Feigl, the deputy chief of OGYÉI, explained that more and more schools are applying for the program every year, and more and more primary schools are providing water-drinking opportunities for children outside the washroom.
Free water supply facilities in educational institutions have improved in all regions.
This year’s Happy Water Week was held from March 21 to 25, in conjunction with World Water Day, and the program was joined by 884 educational institutions – 5,275 school classes and 1,748 kindergarten groups.
Five of the schools submitting the application material related to the campaign will receive a prize of one hundred hundred thousand forints, from which they can buy sports equipment and games.
