City of Salzburg – Moving City: Dialogue tour with a very positive summary
People who enjoy exercise and are enthusiastic about sports provided more than 300 ideas for a sports model
Since February, the dialogue tour of the “Moving City” has stopped at a total of seven stations across the entire city area. Exercise-loving Salzburgers provide more than 300 ideas for the sports model, which is currently being developed in cooperation with the University of Salzburg.
The dialogue tour kicked off on the ice action day in the Volksgarten/Ice Magic. At the second stop at the Glanspitz, deputy mayor and sports department head Bernhard Auinger was joined by sports and exercise professional Michael Mayrhofer, known from the ORF TV program “Bewegt in Salzburg”. Sunny spring weather lured passers-by to the information boards with the results of the survey on the sports concept. The dialogue tour made the next stops at the Volksgarten Festival and at the Radfrühling. Here, too, a number of people could be reached and young and old wrote fleeting idea cards. The last dialogue tours took place in the sports hall Alpenstraße and in the sports center north as well as at the Salzburg marathon.
Bernhard Auinger: “The ideas will flow into the sports mission statement and we want to actually implement as many of them as possible. The people of Salzburg themselves want and should be able to have an active say when it comes to the design of movement spaces in the city. I am pleased that so many people have made use of this opportunity,” said the deputy mayor responsible for sports. Bernhard Auinger.
Sabine Pichler, the city’s sports coordinator: “The direct exchange with people is particularly important to me. Here you can find out first-hand what people want and where their individual needs lie. I am very pleased that we were able to welcome so many interested parties and that numerous creative ideas were collected.”

About the moving city
With the “Moving City” project, the city of Salzburg is to become a large fitness park – or in other words – a large playground, sports and exercise area. The specific goal is to expand the attractive movement options in public space and create new ones or make them more visible. Under the motto “Have a say! Get involved!” citizens can contribute their ideas for sport, exercise and open spaces in their neighborhood and discuss them with experts.
