a five-year project to treat more and better cancer patients
The project to reorganize and extend the Henri Becquerel cancer center in Rouen will run from 2022 to 2026 and will cost 115 million euros. Its general manager, Pierre Vera, presented it this Friday, May 20 on France bleu Normandie.
Project in three phases
- Restructuring of the research and training part with the extension of a building, for 15 million euros (2021-2023)
- Construction of a new building of more than 10,000 m², for 80 million euros (2023-2025)
- Restructuring of the native building for 20 million euros (2025-2026)
“Funding is a real problem.he assures. But for the moment, the center manages to maintain a balance of its finances. The establishment has received numerous grants from the public authorities, from the EU to the city of Rouen.but the “large majority” of the project is self-funded.
“Today, we cure about 40% of cancer patientsensures the doctor, in 10 years on will recover two thirds. The probability decreases because research has increased a lot, but as life expectancy has increased, the number of cancers increases.” This is one of the reasons for this project: to be able to treat more cancer patients in the coming decades.
