The Métropole is setting up green bus shelters
The Rouen Normandie Metropolis is financing the implementation of a greening project for bus shelters in the territory, through the intermediary of the company JC Decaux, owner of the furniture.
In order to improve the urban living environment, part of the bus shelters will be planted between May 16 and June 7, in the municipalities of Rouen and Grand Quevilly. This revegetation has direct positive consequences on the environment. It facilitates the circulation of biodiversity by providing a relay habitat for many species, and contributes to the reduction of urban heat islands.
For Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, President of the Rouen Normandy Metropolis, Mayor of Rouen, Marie Atinault, Vice-President in charge of ecological transitions and innovations, and Cyrille Moreau, Vice-President in charge of transport, future mobility and active travel modes: The renaturation of urban space is a major challenge. It not only makes it possible to beautify the city, but it also has virtuous consequences for the environment, mainly by helping the circulation of biodiversity and by contributing to the demineralization of urban space. The bus shelters, mainly utilitarian and advertising, are often forgotten even though they have many advantages: they are found throughout the city and are places of meetings, sometimes even of conviviality. It therefore seemed interesting to us to include them in this broader dynamic of renaturation and revegetation of urban space, which we are already carrying out throughout the metropolitan territory. »
The revegetation of bus shelters consists of adding green modules placed on the roofs. The revegetation is carried out in two stages: the reinforcement of the structure, so that it supports the additional weight, then the installation of the modules. Three first shelters have already been equipped between May 16 and 18, 2022, at the Champlain place Carnot stop in Rouen. Two other shelters will be equipped by May 20: the taxi shelter at the corner of rue Verte and Place Tissot, in Rouen and the Administrative Center stop, in Grand Quevilly, on the Hôtel de Ville side.
A second phase of revegetation of the shelters will follow, from June 7 to 11, concerning:
– The JF Kennedy stop, in Grand Quevilly, metro side.
– The two shelters at the Théâtre-des-Arts stop, on the Quai de la Bourse, in Rouen.
– The stop at Place Saint-Clément, in Rouen.
– The taxi shelter of the Saint-Ouen Abbey, in Rouen.
