Processes – Munich – Process for Oktoberfest copy in Dubai – Bavaria
Munich/Dubai (dpa) – A planned Oktoberfest in faraway Dubai is busy this Thursday (11.15 a.m.) with the Higher Regional Court (OLG) Munich. It has to deal with the question of whether this festival should even be called Oktoberfest.
In 2021, the city of Munich obtained an injunction from the District Court of Munich I, which prohibits the organizers from using phrases such as “Dubai Oktoberfest”, “Oktoberfest goes Dubai” or “The traditional Oktoberfest at the site of the EXPO 2021 world exhibition” for the planned event in to advertise in the United Arab Emirates. The organizers are appealing against this. Their justification: The label “Oktoberfest” is used several times and is “weak in labeling”.
The head of the Munich Wiesn, economics officer Clemens Baumgärtner, said after the district court’s decision last year that he was “relieved” about the decision. Using the “Oktoberfest” gap caused by the pandemic to make money is “shabby”. The reputation of the Wiesn can be so badly damaged by the copy that visitors no longer want to visit the original.
