Princess Sofia of Sweden modified her wedding tiara – see photos here
For us, tiaras are one of the greatest benefits of being a member of the royal family, and while the British royals may be particularly known for their toppers, they are certainly not the only ones with enviable crowned jewels. Princess Sofia of Sweden, for example, gave us a big tiara moment at a state banquet at the Royal Palace in Stockholm for the official visit of the President and First Lady of Finland this week.
On Tuesday, the princess stepped out with her husband, Prince Carl Philip, for the event, wearing a flowing, red, floor-length dress and her royal awards, accentuated by a very special tiara – Palmette Tiara, given to her by her parents-in-law, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, for her wedding day. Sofia, however, made a small adjustment of the tiara for this look and replaced the emeralds that appeared in it on her wedding day with pearls.
This is not the first time the royal has made a small change to her tiara either – she wore the same to the Swedish royal family’s recently released portrait, but at that time the topper had neither emeralds nor pearls, only the diamond base.
Sofia was certainly not alone in her choice to wear a tiara for the big night – the next day Sweden and Finland submitted applications to join NATO – as both her mother-in-law Queen Silvia and sister-in-law Crown Princess Victoria both also chose sparkling headdresses. Victoria chose the Napoleonic Cut-Steel Tiara, a favorite of hers, which she also wore for the royal family’s official portrait, while Queen Silvia wore King Edward VII Ruby Tiara.
