PISA. The development of microsurgery systems leads to a new manufacturing facility and 50 hires. Dozens of new ones to be recruited to prepare for the landing on the North American markets. Medical Microinstruments Spa (Mmi), a Pisan company specialized in the creation of micro-robotic systems aimed at improving microsurgery, yesterday inaugurated the new Montacchiello plant. An avant-garde structure that centralizes all the activities of the company founded in Calci seven years ago, welcoming the departments and staff (one hundred employees) so far distributed in four sites.

The new plant, is part of the so-called “Silicon Valley”, has a surface area of 3 thousand square meters and is expected to support the growth of the company and will function as a center of excellence for microsurgical robotics, which derives from and concretize a plan development which provides for the strengthening of the presence on the European markets and the landing, expected in 2024, on the American and North American ones. Path that will materialize especially with the entry of new workers.

The company plans to hire 50 people by the end of the year. Engineers, specialists in robotics, but also workers capable of transforming projects into products that are sold to hospitals and healthcare companies. Among these above all the “Symani Surgical System”, a flexible platform composed of two robotic arms to be used in surgical and microsurgical procedures in any anatomical region. Robots, commanded and guided by a surgeon, which have already found space in the operating theaters of the hospitals of Careggi, Zurich and Salzburg, together with the “NanoWrist” instruments, the smallest wrist surgical devices in the world designed to improve natural dexterity and freedom of movement of the surgeon in addition to the ability to use the human hand.

“Our new headquarters marks the beginning of an exciting new era – says Mark Toland, CEO of Medical microinstruments -. This new space reflects our focus on innovation, collaboration and growth orientation. The expansion of the production center further expands us to be ready to grow in the markets and to make our Symani system and NanoWrist instruments available to an increasing number of patients ».

The building inaugurated in Montacchiello was taken over and renovated by the company in twelve months. Entering the company headquarters, it will welcome all employees, as well as a large team of professionals working in the five company laboratories where advanced research and development activities are carried out. «Working all together in the new structure improves communication and the capacity for innovation, a fundamental element for our research activities – explains Massimiliano Simi, head of the research and development department -. With our new laboratories we are ready to speed up the design and development of high quality products ».

“A state-of-the-art plant boasting some of the most advanced production technologies and production processes – concludes Giancarlo Testaverde, operative of the company – thanks to which we can meet the growing production needs and support growth in new markets”.
