Mare Nostrum: Manaudou engaged in a high quality 50m in Monaco
Less than a month away from the World Championships in Budapest (June 18 – July 3), Monaco is hosting the first of the three Mare Nostrum rounds this weekend, with Barcelona (May 25-26) and Canet-en-Roussillon ( May 28-29). As so often, there will be a lot of good people and especially in the 50m where Florent Manaudou, who will skip the Occitan stage, will come up against some serious opponents.
Faced with the quadruple Olympic medalist, who withdrew from the French Championships in Limoges because of knee pain, we note the presence of the Brazilian Bruno Fratus, bronze medalist at the Tokyo Games in this exercise, the American Michael Andrew who has the best time for the moment (21”45) or Maxime Grousset.
Sjöström doubles 50m and 50m butterfly
In the absence this summer of Adam Peaty, who suffers from a foot injury, breaststroke should be the domain of Dutchman Arno Kamminga. As for the young women, we will follow the performances of Sweden’s Sarah Sjöström in the 50m and 50m butterfly, of the American Olympic champion Lydia Jakoby in the 100m breaststroke, of Hong Kong’s Sioban Haughey in the 50, 100 and 200m after her two Olympic silver medals over the last two distances, or the return of the Spaniard Mireia Belmonte Garcia, Olympic champion in 2016 in the 200 m butterfly, but often absent since because of injuries, who is engaged in 200 pap, but also over 200 m medley and 400 m medley.
