European Small States: San Marino champion. The 3-0 victory over Scotland was decisive
FAROE ISLANDS – The European Championships Small Countries Division close at Faroe Islands give the Titano volleyball a title that was missing since 1994, that of Small States European Champion.
The 3-0 victory (25/21 25/19 25/15) over Scotland on the last day of the tournament made the match between Faroe (in any case second in the standings) and Iceland useless.
A great satisfaction for the federal president Gianluigi Lazzarini: “It was a gigantic emotion. The boys acted like pros and played faster, more tactical volleyball than their opponents throughout the tournament. After 28 years we have managed to bring the title of European champions of small states back to the Titan. But this is a victory that we have been building since this leadership team got to work together about three decades ago. Therefore, thanks to everyone, including the Beach & Park company which is working very well at all levels “.
The technical commissioner agrees Stefano Mascetti: “This title comes after a long journey of work together that has seen the players, many of whom I am lucky enough to coach in the San Marino club team, as protagonists. I am happy because with a young group and with several guys their first international approach, proved to be the best from a technical point of view. Against Scotland, Rondelli, Bernardi and Zonzini played at Serie A levels against a superior physical team. But these beautiful things happen when you work a lot, always and at high levels in the gym as if you were, in fact, a Serie A team. This mentality led this group of players to win the Serie C first; then to “keep” the Serie B for three years and today made us win this title. A bravo for this victory also goes to all the technical staff, in particular to Marco Ricci and Davide Mussoni and to all the federal and club managers who really work hard for San Marino volleyball “.
