Bundesliga: “Record man” Jaissle extended in Salzburg
Bundesliga
Shortly before the end of the most successful season in the history of Red Bull Salzburg, the club announced the premature extension of the contract with successful coach Matthias Jaissle. As Austria’s series champion announced on Thursday, the 34-year-old German signed a new contract until 2025 and is at least one more year in Salzburg. A change of the “record man” is off the table for the time being.
“In that case, I’m an absolute believer,” Jaissle, whose original contract would have expired in 2024, was quoted as saying in a club broadcast. “The task here in Salzburg is a matter close to my heart. I feel very comfortable in the club and in the region, I really appreciate the conditions and the whole environment here. Working with the team, the staff and with Stephan Reiter and Christoph Freund is a lot of fun, I look forward to coming here every day.” The early contract extension is also a sign of appreciation.
The then Liefering coach was presented as the new head coach in April 2021 as the successor to Jesse Marsch, who switched to RB Leipzig in the summer. On Saturday (5:00 p.m.) the “Bulls” also have the chance in the last round of the Admiral Bundesliga against Austria Klagenfurt to break their own record of points since the league reform and to equal the record of 26 wins set by Wiener Austria in 1985/86. Back then, however, 36 rounds were played, four more than now.
Change to Germany off the table for the time being
“With this initial decision, we now have clarity about the coaching question for the new season. That feels good and saves us all a lot of speculation,” emphasized managing director Stephan Reiter, who also dispelled rumors about a change in his “record man” in the German Bundesliga. “Matthias Jaissle provided many arguments for further cooperation. And by that I don’t just mean the sporting successes, but also how he develops the team and lives our club philosophy. That’s another reason why I’m already looking forward to the new season.”
Sports director Christoph Freund is also happy that clear conditions could be created ahead of time. “The sporting achievements, the development of the young team, the successes achieved – all of Matthias Jaissle’s work this season was simply outstanding,” said the 44-year-old. “In him we have a coach who fits in perfectly with our club and still has a great coaching career ahead of him. That’s why we’re pleased that we were able to extend the contract early and after the well-deserved vacation we’ll tackle the coming season together with full energy and anticipation.”
