Toulouse: for three days, the city meets Les Médiévales
From May 27 to 29, Les Médiévales de Toulouse take over the Prairie des Filtres. A family activity staged by the Federation of Tradesmen, Craftsmen and Professionals of Toulouse.
It’s a test that is sure to have a sequel in years to come. During the Ascension weekend, May 27, 28 and 29, the first medieval festival in Toulouse takes place on the Prairie des Filtres. A large historic gathering interspersed with games and various activities to energize the city and prevent Toulouse from emptying out during this long weekend. “This animation which recreates three days of a medieval daily life is first of all a great family and intergenerational celebration, notes Philippe Léon, president of the Federation of traders and craftsmen of Toulouse, at the initiative of these Médiavales. A way to promote medieval culture, to rediscover craft and gastronomic traditions and to share a common history. All in an idyllic environment along the Garonne, the Pont-Neuf and the Cours Dillon”.
An XXL animation that does not hesitate to bring history back to life, this chivalrous era with historical panels and a presentation of France in the 13th century. During the duration of the event, six companies from the region recount their daily life to the public through reconstructions in three 15th and 16th century camps: combat demonstrations, exhibitions of armour, medieval helmets, outfits from the Middle Age, etc. A real journey into the past at the time of the knights. “These companies also stage presentations of catapults, cannon fire or the manufacture of chain mail,” continues Philippe Léon. Without forgetting the organization of a medieval wedding under tent with the bishop Foulque”.
Owl ass game: a great moment of laughter and humor
In order to immerse the city in this historic period, on May 27 and 28, a stroll will invest the Victor-Hugo market followed by another at the Carmes market and in the streets of Toulouse. How to become a knight? What is a Medieval Farm? So many answers refused to children who could also discover the life of a rustic farm and animals. Not to mention the medieval market (25 stalls) and its sale of period objects. Finally, no Middle Ages without the Owl Ass World Championship, Sunday May 29th. A great moment of laughter and humor around a dice tournament in partnership with six gaming bars in the city. Be careful, you have to reach 343 points to win and take back the owl’s ass!
This animation takes place on a closed and secure site. Admission €7, €5 (children) and free for under 12s. The animation also needs volunteers for its organization. Info: www.medievales-toulouse.fr
