The number of confirmed cases of monkeypox in Portugal has risen to 20, CNN Portugal learned from a hospital source.
The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) had confirmed five, but, in the meantime, the Centro Hospitalar Lisboa CentralCHULC), which is following up 15 suspected cases, which have confirmed the presence of the Monkeypox virus. These options are also being presented by the Ricardo Jorge National Institute of Health (INSA) and only after this body confirms the results does the DGS give the results as positive.
Since the patients are hospitalized and none are being accompanied, at home, by doctors from the Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Central.

“They are stable, capable of overcoming ulcers”, indicated the DGS.
Monkeypox virus, or monkeypox, of the genus Orthopoxvirus and causes communicable disease through contact with animals or close contact with infected people or contaminated materials, explains the national health authority.

This rare variant of smallpox was detected in the UK on 7 May, diagnosed in a person who reportedly contracted an infection after a trip to Nigeria.
In 2003, 43 people were identified with the virus in the US. A smaller outbreak was recorded in Britain in 2018.
